About

I am a student in Bac Pro CIEL (Cybersecurity, IT and Networks, Electronics), a French vocational upper-secondary programme, at Lycée Likès in Quimper. Computing interested me well before I started there, and the course mostly gave me a framework to structure what I was already tinkering with on my own.

Outside of class I maintain a homelab: a small infrastructure built from several salvaged servers. That is where I learn the most concretely. Linux system administration, virtualisation, containers, exposing services to the outside world: every service I install forces me to understand what sits underneath. I am currently learning Windows Server administration, which is still far more common in companies, as well as IPv4 and IPv6 addressing.

Homelab

A small infrastructure built at home from several salvaged servers. It is my main learning ground: virtualisation, self-hosted services, and access from the outside through a reverse proxy.

Hardware

My homelab is made of three salvaged machines: an HP laptop and two old towers. Not much RAM, storage on HDDs, but I made it work and I am happy with it.

Infrastructure and services

I run services, mainly for friends. For example Piwigo and Jellyfin for media, as well as several Minecraft servers. I have also tried TeamSpeak, Matrix, and even a mail server.

Networking and remote access

I use FRP and an Nginx reverse proxy to expose my services, so everything sits behind a reverse proxy.

Homelab diagram Visitors reach a remote server over HTTPS, where Nginx acts as a reverse proxy. Traffic then comes down an FRP tunnel to the HP laptop at home. The home router is connected to a switch in a wall-mounted rack, which the HP laptop and both towers are plugged into. What I learned from it

All of this taught me Docker, Linux system administration, network security, virtualisation and plenty of other things.

Previous internships

IT department of a school

Year-9 work experience · 2 weeks

A first look at managing an IT fleet: hardware maintenance on a large number of workstations, fault diagnosis and putting machines back into service. My first contact with working in an IT team and with the reality of a fleet that has to be kept running.

Apprentice training centre

Internship · 5 days

This one was more software than hardware: fleet management and virtualisation with professional tools such as VMware and Windows Server. That internship is what made me want to go deeper into virtualisation.
